Barbara Schott
Barbara L. Schott, 90, of Rockford, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio.
Born on Tuesday, January 10, 1928 in Celina, Ohio Barb was the daughter of the late John Mathews and the late Nora (Atkinson) Mathews. She married Alfred W. Schott on March 19, 1946 in Chattanooga, Ohio and he preceded her in death on January 11, 2011.
Barb was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm, Ohio where she served on the Altar Guild.
She graduated from the Rockford High School in 1946. Later in life, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ohio Northern University. She then went on to receive her Master's Degree in Education as well from Wright State University.
Barb was a longtime teacher and educator in the Parkway School District, teaching Junior-High Language Arts … all 30 years in the same room. Barb was very proud of the fact that she became a teacher somewhat later in life because she went to school, worked, and raised her children all at the same time. She thoroughly enjoyed her profession and cared deeply for every student she touched.
Barb enjoyed spending time (counseling!) with her grandchildren, reading, Sudoku puzzles, fishing, and roller skating.
Survivors include her son, Alan (Dianne) Schott of Willshire, OH; son, Barry Schott of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Sharon (Steve) Murphy of Blytheville, AR; son, Kelly Schott of Rockford, OH; daughter, Traci Schott of St. Marys, OH; granddaughter, Alison (Joe) Bender of Landisville, PA; grandson, Cory (Sarah) Davies of Blytheville, AR; grandson, Collin Davies of Conway, AR; great-grandchild, Dokken Davies of Blytheville, AR; brother-in-law, Dale Schott of Ft. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Robert, and Lawrence; and five sisters, Pauline, Joy, Lucille, Mildred, and Myrtle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm with Rev. Jeffery Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm.
Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 2nd at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.
