Emogene Hecht
Emogene Hecht, 94, Saint Marys, Ohio, died 11:25 P.M. Monday, March 14, 2016, at the Laurels of Shane Hill Nursing Home.
She was born January 16, 1922, in Saint Marys, the daughter of Walter and Edith (Burkhart) Kettler. She married Carl Hecht on February 8, 1942, at the Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys, and he preceded her in death on September 19, 1990.
She is survived by her six children: Judith Sampson of Van Wert; Dr. Ralph (Susan) Hecht of Celina; Dennis (Deborah) Hecht of Rockford; Merrilee (Michael) Kleinhenz of Saint Marys; Linda (Scott) Gephart of Covington, Ohio; Kermit (Alana) Hecht of Saint Marys. She is survived by 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Roberta Kettler of Novato, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Walter Kettler; a sister-in-law, Esther Hecht; and a grandson, Gregory Hecht.
Emogene was a 1939 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. She was a homemaker and farm wife who loved spending time with her family, attending their sporting and social events.
She will be remembered as a very kind and appreciative woman, and as someone who gave her children every opportunity to succeed. She enjoyed crocheting, and made afghans for all her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Saint Marys.
Funeral rites will be held 2:30 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Saint Marys, the Reverend Bill Maki, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Saint Marys.
Friends may call from 2-8 P.M. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
