Marjorie Kreachbaum
Marjorie M. Kreachbaum, 88, Upper Sandusky, died Aug. 31, 2013, at her residence.
She was born July 5, 1925, in Celina, to Homer and Anna Stoner Rice. On Dec. 21, 1949, she married her loving husband, George F. Kreachbaum, who survives in Upper Sandusky.
Also surviving are two daughters, Ruth Ann (Phil) Winkler of Tampa, Fla., and Kay (Bill) Scott of Westerville; four grandchildren, Ian and Savannah Winkler and Alex and Claire Scott; a sister, Trudy Brookhart of Lima; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Rice, Freida Helber, Naomi Kreachbaum and Alice (Joe) Blankenship.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Homer Rice Jr.
She graduated from Neptune High School in 1943 and received her bachelor's degree in education from Miami University in 1947. She taught for eight years with Celina City Schools as an elementary teacher. From 1971 until her retirement in June of 1983, she was a reading teacher in the Upper Sandusky School system.
A member of John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, she sang in the choir and was a member of the Susannah-Hope Circle. She continued to be active in the community throughout her retirement with memberships in Usando Literary Club, where she was known for her pecan sales to raise money for their scholarship fund and was a past president of the Wyandot County Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky, the Rev. Brian Arnold officiating.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery near Upper Sandusky.
Memorial donations may be given to John Stewart United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
