Leo Schwartz
Leo H. Schwartz, 85, 33 E. South St., New Bremen, died at 11:02 a.m. May 9, 2010, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born July 29, 1924, in Minster, to Adam and Josephine Schulze Schwartz. On June 26, 1948, he married Esther J. Dues, who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are six children, Nicholas (Brenda) Schwartz, Yorkshire, and Edwin (Marilyn) Schwartz, Ronald (Edith) Schwartz, Patricia (Ken) Bruns, Donna (John) Kremer and John (Connie) Schwartz, all of New Bremen; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are nine siblings, Joseph, Raymond, Albert, Norbert, Clara, Lawrence and Louis Schwartz, Henrietta Wente and Dorothy Kahlig.
He was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He was a member of the American Legion Post 241, New Bremen, the New Bremen Rod and Gun Club and the Westside Airport on the Schwartz farm. He worked on a farm, at the former Goodyear in St. Marys and retired from Thieman Stamping in New Bremen in 1989.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial is at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church's parish center and 9:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials can be made to the State of the Heart Hospice.
Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen is handling arrangements.
