Dorothy Hertenstein
Dorothy M. Hertenstein, 81, 320 E. Front St., New Bremen, died at 10:56 a.m. May 4, 2010, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born Dec. 31, 1928, near Kettlersville, to George A. and Frieda Hehr Nuesmeyer. On June 4, 1949, she married Stanley Hertenstein, who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are three children, Kay (Bruce) Feiten, Mentor, June Kinsella, New Bremen, and Steven (Jinny) Hertenstein, Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Eunice Roney.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, where she also taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Busy 12, the Satellite D and the funeral lunch committee and served in many offices of the church. She also was a member of the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Guild, the former Child Conservation League of New Bremen, the New Bremen Historic Association, and Miami Erie Canal Corridor Association, the New Bremen Friends of the Library, Delta Kappa Gamma and both the Auglaize County and New Bremen Retired Teachers. She was a 1946 graduate of Anna High School and a graduate of Bowling Green State University. She taught at Van Buren Township School in Kettlersville and taught first grade at New Bremen Elementary School until retiring in 1992. She continued substitute teaching after retiring.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial is at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
