Winifred Sloughter
Winifred "Wini" Sloughter, 92, 03252 state Route 219, New Bremen, died at 9:23 a.m. April 25, 2008, at the St. Marys Living Center.
She was born July 24, 1915, in New York, N.Y., to Claude and Jane "Jennie" Lawrence Seale. In 1939, she married John Gordon Coffin, who died in 1975. Her second husband, Gordon Sloughter, died in 1987.
Surviving are a son, Gordon (Jean) Coffin, New Bremen; a daughter, Elaine (Mario Vecchi) Coffin, South Pasadena, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Kathia (Alan) Miller, Naples, Fla.; a sister, Helen (John) Nash, Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Jean Downes.
She retired as an executive secretary for the Electro Mechanical Research Co. and Schlumberger Corporation in Ridgefield, Conn., and Sarasota. She was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, St. Petersburg, Fla. She was a 1933 graduate of Ridgefield High School and a 1937 graduate of Connecticut College for Women.
Private services and burial will be held at Palms Memorial Park in Sarasota.
Contributions can be made to the Otterbein-St. Marys Retirement Community Benevolence Fund, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or to any hospice.
