Walter Bergman
Walter V. Bergman, 83, 1155 Benner Road, Fort Recovery, died March 9, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born March 5, 1925, in St. Henry to Harry and Pauline Albers Bergman. On June 3, 1947, he married Kathryn Vonderhyde, who survives.
Other survivors are, five sons Kenneth (Mandy), Fort Recovery, Gregory, Portland, Ind., Calvin (Teresa), Monrovia, Md., Kevin (Kim), Ansonia, Eric (Lisa), Salamonia, Ind.; four daughters, Elaine Brunswick and Jacqueline (David) Ables, all of Portland, Rebecca (Greg) Shreeve, Salamonia, Ind., and Miriam Major, Bryant, Ind.; three brothers, Melvin (Peg), Floyd (Joan), all of Fort Recovery, and Jack (Jean), St. Henry; four sisters, Ruth Finch, Dayton, Betty Jean (Cy) Brockman, Marjorie Vogel and Elsie (Roscoe) Timmerman, all of Fort Recovery; two sisters-in-law, Mary Bergman, St. Henry and Mercedes Bergman, Fort Recovery; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Kurt, a daughter, Kristina; five brothers, Ralph, Harold, Paul, Lavern and Carrol; and a sister, Carrie Bergman.
He was a retired milk hauler, owner-operator of Walter Bergman and Son's Trucking, a farmer and horse dealer. He served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and past president of the Fort Recovery Riding Club, and a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, all in Fort Recovery.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial with gravesiide military services by the American Legion of Fort Recovery is at St. Marys Cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home in Fort Recovery.
