Bouncing onto local family tables this Thanksgiving will be a tart fruit formerly raised in Mercer County

Much of the holiday fare brought to local tables Thanksgiving Day has been raised in the area one time or another. And that includes the tart red fruit American Indians once called "ibimi" or "bitter berry."
Dutch and German settlers called the plump berries "craneberry" after the shape of the plant blossom which resembles the beak of a European crane. Others called them "bounceberries" because the test for freshness is their ability to bounce. [More]

A Montgomery County man faces multiple charges, including three felonies related to firearms, following a weekend altercation at The 211 Club on South Main Street. He allegedly pointed a handgun at a local man before the weapon was wrestled away by a woman. [More]

Parkway fell to 1-1 on the season as Wayne Trace beat the Panthers 71-45 at Panther Gymnasium.
The Raiders pounced on the Panthers with a 24-5 first quarter, only to have Parkway outscore Wayne Trace 19-11 to cut it to 35-24 at the half. Wayne Trace responded with a 18-10 third quarter to take a commanding 53-34 lead. [More]

MINSTER - For a second time in a month, concerned residents came to a village council meeting seeking answers to questions - this one involving the proposed construction of a five-unit group home north of the Rosebud Subdivision.
