John Smith
John R. Smith, 59, 1123 Indiana Ave., St. Marys, died at 8:54 a.m. Nov. 24, 2006, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following a brief illness.
He was born April 13, 1947, in St. Marys, to Carl and Alice Dock Smith. His father is deceased and his mother survives in Wapakoneta at the Auglaize Acres Nursing Home. On Jan. 10, 1998, he married Christine Cook, who survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving are his mother and father-in-law, Art and Ramona Cook and a brother-in-law, Steven Cook, St. Marys.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he worked at the Pentagon and assisted in writing the computer code for Space Station MIR and the Stealth Bomber. He spent more than six years in Vietnam during the war there. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Mark Forr officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
