Drew Bailey's squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Daron Houser for the winning run to give Wapakoneta a 2-1 victory over Celina in the resumption of the teams' Western Buckeye League baseball contest on Wednesday afternoon in Wapakoneta.
The teams scored one run each in the sixth inning before the weather prompted the suspension of play on April 14. Wes Greber singled home BJ Tare in the top of the sixth to score the opening run, only for Griffen Mericle to tie it up in the bottom of the inning with a home run to right.
The game resumed in the top of the seventh with the Bulldogs at the bat. Ohyn May led off with a single and moved to second on Chance Miller's sacrifice bunt. Houser got out of trouble with back-to-back ground outs to strand May at third base.
Houser led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left. Avram Long bunted Houser to second base for the first out. Celina then walked Blake Rogers to set up a possible double play. Tanner Wendel's first pitch to Bailey was bunted back to the mound. The throw home to get Bailey was not in time, ending the game.
Houser scattered five hits and did not walk a batter to get the complete game win, striking out three.
Wendel pitched well in taking the loss, scattering six hits and two walks over 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.
May had two hits to pace Celina.
Jarrett Mullen had two hits for Wapakoneta.
