Coldwater senior Quinn Brandon, seated center, will attend the University of Findlay and swim for the Oilers.
After creating milestones during his swimming career at Coldwater, Quinn Brandon will maintain the orange and black look an hour or so north.
The Cavalier senior will swim next season at the University of Findlay, joining a strong NCAA Division II program that has recruited Grand Lake area swimmers over the years.
"I really like the area. It looks like a big community," said Brandon, who will major in business with the chance to double in management and marketing. "Plus I really wanted to go away for college."
The Oilers are coming off a season having won both the men's and women's championships at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference championships for the fourth straight season and finished eighth at the NCAA Division II national championships. Brandon will be joined by fellow Auglaize-Mercer Family Y Waves teammate Jackson Newcomb of Celina at Findlay. St. Marys' Ciera Rupert and Versailles' Ava Shardo are current members of the Oilers.
"It's nice because I already know a few people on the team," said Brandon.
Brandon wrapped up his swimming career as Coldwater's record holder in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. After coming close as a junior, Brandon qualified for the state tournament this year, competing in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. In addition to the Waves, Brandon also swam in the summer for the Coldwater Cudas.
"Definitely I will keep in mind all the tips and different things the coaches have told me," said Brandon about what he'll take with him to Findlay.
