He was always willing to help anyone in need and especially loved his time volunteering at St. Peter's Neurological Center. He is survived by his lovely wife of 66 years Margaret (Koenig) Schmit along with his brother Roger and Diane Schmit of Coldwater, brother Ken Schmit of St. Henry, sister-in-law Rita Snider of Celina, sister-in-law Joanne Koenig of Coldwater, and in-laws Carl and Linda Koenig of Maria Stein. Daughter Theresa Gillis and husband Corrie and their family; Josh and Kirby, Drew and Katy, Olivia and Kala Gillis. Son Doug and significant other Shelly Herman and his family; Sophia and Orion, and Eli. Donnie was also was fortunate to have a great relationship with his 13 great-grandkids.
Donnie retired from Minster Machine after 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with family and friends and always had a drink ready for any visitors. It's hard to put into words what he meant to his family, he was good to his core and willing to help anyone in need, a great role model for all. He lived a very full and happy life and enjoyed life to the fullest. We will miss his energy and infectious ability to laugh and have a great time.
