Eugene Schmitmeyer
Eugene J. Schmitmeyer, age 95 of Minster, Ohio, died on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Otterbein St. Marys, Ohio. He was born on July 26, 1929 in Minster, Ohio to the late Henry & Cecelia (Puthoff) Schmitmeyer. He married Treva Bornhorst on March 29, 1951 and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2019.
He is survived by daughters: Karen & Gary Dues, Versailles, Nancy Schmitmeyer Pompano Beach, FL, grandchildren: Brett & Molly Dues, Audra & Mitch Wietholter, Mitchell & Katie Dues, great grandchildren: Isaac, Clark, Genevieve, Lauren, Xavier, Jace, Ava, Ethan, Lane, Eathen, Taylor and Kylee.
He was preceded in death by sisters: Helen & Len Schmiesing, Gertrude & Walter Schmiesing, Magaret (Bergman) Dicks, Betty (Belton) & Roger Zoll, Norma Schmitmeyer, Janel Schmitmeyer.
He was a member of S.t Augustine Catholic Church, an usher of church and an usher at BINGO. He was a member of the Minster F.O.E. 1391 Eagles and Minster K of C. Gene was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed carpentry and worked with Ed Prenger and Nick Hoying.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 AM Thursday, March 20, 2025 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, Ohio with burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday March 19, 2025 and on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grand Lake Hospice.
