Carolyn Mescher
Carolyn P. Mescher, age 85, of Rossburg, passed away at 6:59 PM Saturday, April 27, 2024, at The Brethren's Home, Greenville.
She was born on March 15, 1939 near Frenchtown, Ohio to the late Robert & Helen (Mangen) Monnin. She married Richard E. Mescher on January 4, 1958 in Russia, Ohio. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2016.
She is survived by children: Christopher & Jane Mescher, Bradford; Michael & Cindy Mescher, Ansonia; Randall & Nancy Mescher, Summerville, S.C.; Kelly Smith, North Star; Eric Mescher, North Star; and Bradley & Amy Mescher, Branchburg, N.J.; 12 grandchildren: Jamie Smith, Jodie Mescher, Jenny & Adam Cone, Phil & Erika Mescher, Tim Mescher, Meaghan & Zach Hegemier, Emma Smith, Tori Smith, Caleb Smith, Ross Mescher, Max Mescher & Grant Mescher; stepgrandchildren: Andrea Hodge, Amy & Josh Day and Derek & Kathryn Hodge; great-grandchildren: Amelia Cone, Oliver Cone, Owen Mescher, Madison Mescher, Lucy Mescher, Slade Hegemier; step great-grandchildren: Damion Day, Davin Day, Myra Day, Mallory Day, Paul Day, Kennedy Hodge, McKinley Hodge; brothers & sisters: Verl & Ann Monnin, Jackie Myers, Ruth & Richard Pierron, Roberta & Jim Duckworth, Gene & Marilyn Monnin, Debbie Monnin Fox, Robert Monnin, Jr. and Trina & Robert Thobe; in-laws: Barb Monnin, Alfred & Jan Mescher, Alfrieda & Glenn Anderson, and Joseph Mescher.
She was preceded in death by son Jeff Mescher, grandson Jeremy Mescher, great-granddaughter Violet Hegemier, brothers & sisters: Marvin Monnin, Greg Monnin, stillborn Joseph Monnin; father & mother-in-law: Joseph & Katherine (Walterbusch) Mescher; in-laws: Vincent & Olivia Mescher, Norbert Mescher, Loretta & Leonard Otte, Norma & Ivo Brackman, Wilbert & Carol Mescher, Rita & Elmer Siefring, stillborn Theresa Mescher, Elmer Mescher, Linus & Margaret Mescher, Mary Ann Mescher, and Betty Mescher.
She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, Ohio, since 1960. In 1957 she graduated from Russia Local High School. She had a deep love for her Catholic Faith, especially the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Francis, and St Theresa the Little Flower. She prayed many rosaries and Chaplets of the Divine Mercy for those in need. She joined the church choir in 1973. She searched for new hymns for the choir to learn so those hearing them would have a deeper devotion in their faith. She had served as president of the St. Anne Ladies Sodality, lead the rosary before Mass with her husband, attended daily Mass when she was able.
She loved spending time with her family, friends and going to her grandchildren's sports events. She also enjoyed going to live stage shows, watching TV movies and game shows, surfing the internet, solving crossword puzzles, and exercising at Snap Fitness. She and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing for 25 years. Family gatherings were very special to her. Her fudge was always a big hit.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, Ohio with Rev. Steven Jones celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Louis Church, North Star.
The family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association and the Center for Neurological Development, Burkettsville, Ohio.
