Arthur Prenger
Arthur J. Prenger age 84 of Chickasaw, Ohio died Sunday, March 20, 2022, at the EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
He was born March 26, 1937, in Maria Stein, Ohio to the late Frank & Regina (Mescher) Prenger. On September 26, 1959, he married Rosemary (Bruggeman) Prenger, and she survives in Chickasaw.
Art is also survived by children: Linda & Ben Welsch of Coldwater, Elaine & Leon Heitkamp of Maria Stein, daughter-in-law Rita & Dave Pedersen of Maria Stein, Steve & Lisa Prenger of St. Henry, Teresa & Randy Roeckner of Chickasaw, Sandy & Sam Hartke of Maria Stein, Glenn & Connie Prenger of St. Rose, Julie & Jon Bergman of Maria Stein, Becky & Jason Ranly of Maria Stein, Nick & Tammie Prenger of Chickasaw. He has 44 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, with five on the way, and eight step-great grandchildren. Also surviving him are siblings and in-laws: Annella Franzer, Hilda & Ben Schwieterman, Don & Mary Prenger, Luella Prenger, Kate Bruggeman, Janet Muhlenkamp, Margie Buschur, and Marlene Calhoun.
Art was preceded in death by his son Joseph, siblings and in-laws: infant brother Herbert, Leo & Katherine Prenger & second wife Edna Prenger, Alvin & Ann Prenger, Gregor Prenger, Laurina & Richard Poeppelman, Helen & Gregor Buening, Bernard Franzer, his father and mother-in-law, Lawrence & Elizabeth Bruggeman, Leroy Bruggeman, Evelyn & Herb Sutter, Lavern & Ginny Bruggeman, Ernest Muhlenkamp, Bernice Bruggeman, Richard Buschur.
Art was a member of the last class to graduate from St. John's High School, Class of 1955, and was also the first band member to be awarded the John Phillip Sousa Award. After high school he went on to Moler Barber College in Cincinnati where he graduated in 1959. In 1963 he opened Art's Barber Shop in Chickasaw, and was the owner and operator until his retirement in 2010. Art liked being an active member of his community and served as the Treasurer for the Chickasaw Fire Department, was an athletic and band booster. He sponsored Art's Barber Shop softball team for many years, and was the founder of the Chickasaw Horseshoe League where they played at the horseshoe pits behind his barbershop. He was a volunteer for the Neurological Center in Burkettsville. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Chickasaw; he was a member of the Men's Sodality and was a funeral rosary leader.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Friday, March 25, 2022, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Chickasaw with Rev. Tom Brenberger celebrant.
Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 24 and from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Friday, March 25, at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Burial will follow the funeral mass in Precious Blood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice or the Center for Neurological Development in Burkettsville.
