Rob Richardson
Robin G. Richardson, 62, of Spencerville, died at 12:31 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2022, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, after a month-long illness.
Rob was born September 10, 1959, in Lima, to Carolyn L. (Adams) and Vernon G. Richardson. His mother is deceased. His father survives in Spencerville.
On June 30, 1984, at St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima, he married Paula C. Schimpf, who survives in Spencerville.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sarah E. and Tyler Cole of Northville, Michigan; and a son, Andrew P. and Kari {Wisher) Richardson of Westerville, Ohio; two grandsons, Shepard J. Cole and Asher S. Cole, both of Northville, Michigan; and two brothers, James R. Richardson of Sidney, and Dee A. and Teresa Richardson of Muskegon, Michigan. Other survivors include three sisters-in-law and their husbands and a brother-in-law and his wife, along with 14 nieces and nephews.
Rob graduated from Spencerville High School and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Ohio State University, and a master's degree in educational counseling at the University of Dayton. He retired after 34 years as an elementary and middle school teacher and middle school counselor at Elida Local Schools. He was a former member of Spencerville Village Council, Spencer Township Park Board and the Lima Locos board of directors.
He volunteered countless hours to support Spencerville Local Schools academic and athletic programs, and was named a co-recipient of the Spencerville Athletic Boosters' Booster of the Year Award in 2016. He announced home boys' and girls' basketball games and ran the time clock for home boys' varsity football games. He also served on several school district levy committees and on the fundraising committee for the school's athletic strength and training center. When his children were in school, he frequently helped coach their teams in various youth athletic program sports.
He volunteered at the Spencerville Food Pantry and in countless other ways in his community, helping anyone in need. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Spencerville, where he previously was a member of the church council, and served as a lay Communion distributor and person in charge of weekend Mass. After retirement, he worked as site manager for various Spencerville schools sports, and at the University of Northwest Ohio's athletic complex. He also was well-known in the community for his garden and his generous gifts of the garden's glory to anyone who expressed an interest in his harvest, often handdelivering food to others' homes. He enjoyed all sports, but baseball most of all, antiquing and thrifting, history, recycling, and traveling with his wife, but he mostly enjoyed the gift of everyday living as a 13- year cancer survivor.
Most importantly, Rob was well-regarded as a person of integrity. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and in-law. He showed up for every event in his family's life and stood up for every person in need. He truly was a friend to all.
Mass of Christian burial is Saturday, January 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima, the Revs. David Ross and Dennis Walsh officiating. The size of the church will provide adequate social distancing. The service also will be live-streamed at www.stroselimaohio.org.
There is no visitation. Burial of cremains is scheduled for a later date. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, is handling arrangements.
