A trial program whereby local farmers harvested two crops per year roughly doubled the reduction of soil test phosphorus (STP) compared with harvesting one crop per year, according to a news release from the Mercer Soil and Water Conservation District. The program was implemented on farmland in the Beaver Creek watershed, one of seven subwatersheds within the much larger Grand Lake watershed. [More]

New drug therapy is subject of debate
CELINA - Government health officials on Monday approved the first new drug for Alzheimer's disease in nearly 20 years, disregarding warnings from independent advisers that the much-debated treatment hasn't been shown to help slow the brain-destroying disease.
Officials must produce records
CELINA - The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the argument of Mercer County officials who sought to keep certain records from a 2013 sexual assault case from being released as part of a public records request.
CELINA - Mercer County government has been awarded a $149,995 federal grant to implement a two-stage ditch design in a channel that officials say will improve the water that eventually flows into Lake Erie.
FORT RECOVERY - Village council members were introduced to the newest addition to the village police department during their Monday night meeting.
Adam Diller, 19, Coldwater, will join the department full time pending the completion of certification and other necessary tasks.

CELINA - It's hard to win a baseball game without putting a couple runners on base.
The Celina ACME team discovered that the hard way Monday night, as Coldwater pitchers Reece Dellinger and Josh Kaup combined for a no-hitter in a 6-0 win at Montgomery Field.
Minster's Rachael Hoying earned accolades from the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.
Hoying, who pitched the Wildcats to a third-straight Midwest Athletic Conference title, was a second team All-Ohio selection.
