Joyce Johnson
Joyce E. Johnson, 76, of St. Marys, OH passed away peacefully at 9:09 a.m. Friday October 20, 2017 at Lima Memorial Health System, following a long and courageous battle against liver and kidney disease.
She was born August 4, 1941 in Wapakoneta, OH to William and Mildred (Underwood) Van Schoyck. On June 30, 1960 in St. Marys, OH she married William F. Johnson, who survives.
Also survived by: son William "Skip" (Karla) Johnson of Chesapeake, VA; son Brian (Amy) Johnson of St. Marys, OH; daughter Jennifer (Mark) Sandberg of St. Marys, OH; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother William Van Schoyck of Newport, OH; brother Nicholas (Frances) Van Schoyck of Cincinnati, OH; sister Peg (Dale) Wiehe of Celina, OH.
Preceded in death by: parents William and Mildred Van Schoyck; son Daniel Johnson; son Eric Johnson; granddaughter Betsy Johnson.
She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1959).
Following their marriage, she and Bill embarked on a 21-year military career, which involved living in numerous locations around the country. Joyce was the guts and glue that held her family together, especially during Bill's numerous deployments.
She was also a tremendous cook and homemaker. Her favorite pastimes include fishing and supporting the St.Marys Roughriders, the OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns sports programs. An avid bowler, she participated in local leagues and accumulated an impressive collection of awards and trophies. Much to the chagrin of her family, ever-adventurous Joyce even took up skydiving while living in Alabama, thankfully remaining unscathed!
After Bill's retirement from the service, their family returned home to St. Marys, where Joyce worked at Diamond Savings & Loan Co. and then, as office manager of Total Service Center. She was a member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church and the US Coast Guard Wives' Club.
Rites are scheduled to begin 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 25, 2017 at Wayne Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dillon Staas, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller–Long & Folk Funeral Home (314 W. High Street Chapel) in St. Marys.
