Leroy Heyne
Leroy B. Heyne, age 93, of Coldwater, died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
He was born February 8, 1923 in Coldwater to the late Fred & Rosa (Kunk) Heyne. He married Teresa (Arling) on July 5, 1949 and she survives.
He is also survived by six children: Katie (Bob) Dippold of Cassella, Jim Heyne of Coldwater, Sandy (Dan) Overman of Ft. Recovery, Joe (Carol) Heyne of Celina, Bob (Teresa) Heyne of Coldwater and Rick (Julie) Heyne of Coldwater; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; in laws: Freda (Art) Lange of Washington, Urban (Irma) Arling of North Star, Velma Schlater of North Star, Nick (Linda) Arling of Osgood, and Bonnie (Dave) York of Russia.
He is preceded in death by a grandchild, Brad "Jeeb" Heyne, a brother Louis (Norma) Heyne; and in laws Marietta (Ed) Unrast, Mildred (Roman) Evers, Ed Schlater, and Frank (Mary Ann) Arling.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater where he sang in the choir for over 60 years and served on the parish cemetery board, and Coldwater Knights of Columbus.
Leroy graduated from Coldwater High School in 1941, served in the US Army during WWII, was a life member of the Coldwater American Legion and Coldwater V.F.W. where he also served as past commander and commander of the color guard and firing squads for 57 years, presiding over hundreds of military funerals.
He was past board president and member of the board of directors for the Center for Neurological Development in Burkettsville and one of the co-founders of the Center; along with his wife he was also the recipient of a proclamation from the Ohio State Senate for their support of the Center.
He was awarded along with his wife Teresa, the Senior Volunteer from the Mercer County Council on Aging & Mercer Savings Bank. He was past president of the Coldwater PTO and coached Little League for 18 years.
Leroy worked at the former New Idea plant in Coldwater for 45 years retiring in 1985 and served on the board of directors for the New Idea Credit Union. He was courier for the Peoples Bank Co. for 18 years.
He loved carpentry, bowling, dancing and playing horseshoes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Holy Trinity Church, Coldwater. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home Coldwater.
Memorials may be made to the Center for Neurological development.
