Betty Fox
Betty Jean Fox, age 87, (former rural Mendon and Delphos resident) passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016 at her daughter's home near Sidney, where she had lived the past six years.
She was born December 25, 1928 in Mercer County, to the late Walter & Grace (Coil) Rhodes. Betty married Calvin Dale Fox on March 29, 1948, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2010.
She is survived by their Children: Karen (Philip) Warnecke of Sidney, Kurt Fox of Rockford, Kris Fox of Dayton and Keith (Inge) Fox of Xenia, 14 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, Brothers: Guy "Hop" (Susan) Rhodes of Bluffton, who had been raised in the Fox home, and Ron (Earlene) Rhodes of Plain City, and a Sister-in-law, Betty Rhodes of Van Wert.
She is also survived by Calvin's Brother & Sister: Gary (Patty) Fox of Fairfield and Barb Armstrong of Mendon, and Sisters-in-law: Lois, Kathleen, Cathie and Loa Jean Fox of Celina, and Elaine Fox of Arcanum.
She was preceded in death by: a Son, Kerry Paul Fox, who died October 2, 2005, 6 infant Sons & Daughters, a Grandson, Great-Grandson and Great-Granddaughter, her brother & sister: Bob Rhodes and Bonnie (Daniel) Miller, and Calvin's Sister & Brothers: Lois Nolan and William Paul, Peter Wayne, Lewis E., Glen S. "Grinny" (Dorothy), Charles Junior (Janelle) and Jimmie D. Fox, and a Brother-in-law, Tom Armstrong.
A graduate of Mendon-Union High School, Betty was a homemaker, and had worked at Hosfelt Plumbing & Heating in Lima, as a teller at Community Bank in Delphos, in the office at Huffy Bicycles in Celina, and as school secretary at Ohio City-Liberty Schools.
Betty was a member of Mendon United Methodist Church and Spencerville Chapter #130 The Order of the Eastern Star. She had served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader.
She sewed clothing for her children, and crocheted afghans for her family. She enjoyed oil painting, and baking and decorating cakes. She also did leather work.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 1, at Mendon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rob Glenn, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Tomlinson Cemetery, near Mendon.
Calling Hours are 2-4 & 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 30, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, and an hour prior to time of services on Friday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Memorial Hospital Hospice Care.
