The survival rate of infants is much better in Mercer and Auglaize counties than all of Ohio, which averages 23 percent higher than the national average.
According to data released Monday by the Ohio Department of Health, the state's infant mortality rate dropped slightly in 2013 to 1,024 deaths, down from 1,047 deaths in 2012. The rate - measured by the number of infant deaths per 1,000 live births - was 7.4 in 2013 and 7.6 the previous year in Ohio. [More]

CELINA - A recent traffic study of the intersection of Myers Road and Meadowview Drive does not warrant the placement of either traffic signals or a four-way stop, safety service director Tom Hitchcock said.
Hitchcock revealed the study on Monday night at a streets and alleys commitee meeting. It was initiated after several residents petitioned city officials for traffic signals or a four-way stop, claiming chronic traffic congestion and safety concerns. [More]

Special meeting slated tonight on proposed income tax change
CELINA - City council members on Monday night passed second reading of a resolution declaring their intent to ask voters in November to allow them to use funds from a current 0.5 percent additional income tax for much-needed street repairs.
