Anna-Louise Gross
Anna-Louise (Bornhorst) Gross, 79, Coldwater, died March 12, 2015, in Miamisburg.
She was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Fort Recovery, to the late Paul and Margaret (Stelzer) Bornhorst. On May 17, 1958, she married Lavern W. Gross in Eygpt and he died June 15, 2013.
Surviving are four children, Steven and Shirley Gross, and Gary and Kathy Gross, all of Celina, Joe and Ann Gross, Beavercreek, and Janet and Pat Giere, Coldwater; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Eileen and Lester Poeppelman, Minster, and Jerry and Charlene Bornhorst of Texas; and in-laws, Josephine Bornhorst, St. Henry, Mary Elizabeth (Bette) and Jerry Tonner, Vero Beach, Fla., Patricia (Pat) and Melvin Schlater, Vandalia, John and Carol Gross, Troy, Michael (Mike) and Betty Gross, Tipp City, Marlene and David Fink, Colleyville, Texas, Charles (Chuck) and Marian Gross, Charlottesville, Va., and Mark and Deb Gross, Coldwater.
Deceased are a daughter, Katherine; a grandson, Jonathon; siblings, Maurice and Viola Bornhorst, Charlie Bornhorst and Rosemary Bornhorst; and an in-law, Thomas Gross.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater, the St. Ann's Rosary Altar Sodality and the church prayer chain. She was employed at M.C. Bernold Insurance Agency for four years as a secretary and an auto insurance underwriter, and also held jobs at two craft stores, Anjo's Boutique in Coldwater and the Tie-Knot in Celina.
Anna was a volunteer 4-H advisor. She founded and organized the Happy Hearts 4-H Club in Coldwater for 23 years; founded and organized the first mini (now known as Clover Buds) 4-H Club in Mercer County named The Fun and Fitness Mini 4-H Club for 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds for five years. She also helped with the afterschool 4-H program, organizing the kindergarten children for four years. She planned and wrote the 4-H project book "Beginning Crocheting" for the Mercer County OSU Extension office. She had the honor to receive the "Friends of 4-H" award. It is the highest award given to an adult every year for their extra work and help with the Mercer County program.
She also crocheted neck scarfs and hats for the homeless at St. Vincent's. She took in and cared for a foster teenager for almost two years and sponsored two girls from the Philippines for almost eight years.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
