Dorothy Pfenning
Dorothy M. Pfenning, 89, St. Marys, died at 10:43 a.m. March 12, 2015, at Elmwood of New Bremen.
She was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Gerlach) Gerstner, who are deceased. She married Paul P. Pfenning on May 6, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1985.
Surviving are her children, Gregg (Jill) Pfenning, Martin, Tenn., Marsha (Jack) Murtz, Dublin, Tina (Ron) Miller, Piqua, and Neil (Kelly) Pfenning, St. Marys; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Pfenning, Troy; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joanie Hansard, Vandalia; sisters-in-law, Kitty Gerstner, Wapakoneta, Helen Gerstner, Shawnee, and Mary Gerstner, Wapakoneta; and her brother-in-law, Robert Burke, St. Marys.
Deceased are her sons, Keith Pfenning and Mark Pfenning, who died Feb. 7, 2015; her siblings, Richard Gerstner, John Gerstner, Mary Jane Titus, Robert Gerstner, Alice Driscoll and Norman Gerst-ner; her brothers-in-law, Ray Hansard, Cliff Titus, Phil Pfenning and Jack Driscoll; and her sisters-in-law, Joan Burke and Mary Jo Pfenning.
Dorothy graduated from St Joseph High School, Wapakoneta, and went to art school in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was a bookkeeper at the People's Bank in Wapakoneta and also a homemaker. She had also worked at Vanderhorst Cannery.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society and VFW Post 9289 Auxiliary. She volunteered at Holy Rosary School for many years and also as an adult literacy tutor in Auglaize County. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, and the Altar Sodality of the church.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, Father Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys.
Memorials may be given to the Maria Stein Relic Shrine, Sisters of the Precious Blood or Friends of Holy Rosary School.
