Carl Gariety
Carl L. Gariety, 84, Russia, passed away on Feb. 23, 2015, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Darke County, to the late Leo and Theresa (Dapore) Gariety. On June 2, 1956, he married Esther (Leugers) Gariety, who survives. They were married 58 years.
Also surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Gariety, Russia, Kenneth and Ann Gariety, Russia, and Gregory and Connie Gariety, Russia; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jeff Wirrig, Bradford; grandchildren, Nicole and Jon Keller, Chad and Amy Gariety, Megan and Doug Knapke, Samantha Gariety and fiance Derek Sword, Zachary Gariety, Austin, Allison, Audrey and Alana Gariety, Marissa and Brandon Wirrig, Brooke and Aaron Condon and Justin, Jordan, Jacob and Eliza Gariety; great-grandchildren, Waylon, Maverick and Archer Keller; sister, MaryEllen Thobe; sister-in-law, Iona Gariety; brother-in-law, Jack Shipley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his brothers, Paul and Harold Gariety; sister, Joann Shipley; and brother-in-law, Jerry Thobe.
Carl enjoyed farming all his life and retired from General Motors after 33 years. He was a 1949 graduate of Russia High School. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 696, St. Remy Catholic Church and Russia Catholic War Veterans Post 661. He was a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1955.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Remy Catholic Church, 108 East Main St., Russia, the Rev. Martin Fox celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Remy Catholic Cemetery, Russia. A graveside military service will be conducted by the Russia Catholic War Vets.
Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles.
Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
