Richard Luelleman
Richard G. Luelleman, 94, New Bremen, died at 11:10 p.m. Feb. 6, 2015, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born May 15, 1920, in New Bremen, to William and Ida Heinfeld Luelleman. On June 21, 1941, he married Ruth G. Burmeister, who survives in St. Marys.
Also surviving are his children, Jan (Kathy) Luelleman, Wapakoneta, and Sandra (Tom) Bergman, St. Marys; his grandchildren, Jeff and Kelli Luelleman, Marysville, Lori Luelleman and Amy Luelleman, both of Wapakoneta, Christopher and Victoria Bergman, Sioux Falls, S.D., Tonya Robinson, Xenia, Ben Bergman, Chicago, Ill., Patrick and Diana Bergman, Toledo, and Tiffany and Dustin Cernan, Wapakoneta; and his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Brycen, Samuel, Will, Owen, Sophia, Emma, Noah, Zachary, Jacob and Everett.
He was the last of his family, preceded in death by his siblings, Ida Luelleman, Helen Quellhorst, Carl Luelleman, Margaret McDermitt and Catherine Grilliot.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, and the New Bremen Historic Association, growing up in the house that is now the association's museum. He also was a member of the Woodman of the World Camp 149 of New Bremen and the Home Benefit Association of New Bremen. He belonged to the former New Bremen Men's Garden Club, the Lions Club and the former Shirts and Skirts Western Square Dance Club.
He enjoyed gardening, his roses and other flowers, square dancing and playing cards.
He first worked at the former Roosevelt Theater in New Bremen and the former New Bremen Coal and Builders Supply. He had worked at the former Stamco plant and retired from Crown Equipment Corp., both of New Bremen. After retirement, he became one of the caretakers of the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
