Paul Schleucher
Paul E. Schleucher, 94, Galena Territory, Ill., passed away June 19, 2014, at Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.
He was born Jan. 5, 1920, in rural Celina, to Earl and Charlotte Schleucher. On Dec. 26, 1941, he married Alice Hollman, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sally (Bob) Traul, Galena Territory, Susan (Tom) Carroll, Davidson, N.C., and Nancy (Bob) Provenzano, Ormond Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Kris (Dan Goldblatt) Paul, Eric (Paola) Traul, Jennifer Traul, Jessica (Joseph) Ceithaml, Andrea (Brian) Wallenhorst, Leslie Carroll, Dan (Mandy) Provenzano, Paul (fianceé Teresa) Provenzano, and Rachel (Brad) Kubin; 13 great-grandchildren, John Paul, Matt Paul, Andrew Goldblatt, Robert Dawes, Isabella Traul, Ray Ceithaml, Edward Ceithaml, Ken Wallenhorst, Kiley and Trent Provenzano and their mother Beth Ann, Danika Provenzano, Max Kubin and Sam Kubin; and his beloved friends, Scout and Bud.
Deceased are three brothers, Howard, Clarence and Edward, and many dear friends.
He grew up on the farm in rural Celina, graduated from high school and earned a degree in accounting from International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind. After graduating, he moved to Cleveland to work for Burroughs Adding Machine Co. While in Cleveland, he went to a church roller skating party where he met the "girl with the red shoes" - his future wife.
A month after they were married he was drafted into the Army. He was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, where he was a technical sergeant. After his discharge, he and his wife moved to Findlay, where he partnered with his brother in a dry cleaning business for 30 years. He finished his working career by managing Findlay Lodge BPOE 75 for five years.
They lived in Findlay for 35 years and raised their daughters. He was a real people person who never knew a stranger. He was a fantastic golfer who kept all the scorecards from over 100 courses he played in his life. He was a proud member of the Elks Lodge and was a past Exhalted Ruler. He and his wife had a very full social life with many friends and they loved to dance. After his retirement they lived briefly in Colorado and then moved to Fairfield Glade, Tenn., where Paul played golf and worked in the pro shop.
While living in Tennessee, he and two friends started a new lodge - Cumberland County Elks - which is a growing and thriving lodge. His last 12 years were spent living with his daughter, Sally, in Galena Territory and spending time in Florida with his daughter, Nancy. He continued to play golf until just a few years ago.
His loving family will celebrate his life at a later date to be determined. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
