Helen Robbins
Helen Marie Huddlestun Robbins, 83, formerly of Celina, passed away at 7:50 a.m. May 20, 2014, in St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, Calif.
She was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Wabash, Ind., the lone child of Ralph S. and Burdette (Cole) Huddlestun. She married her husband of 61 years, Junior L. Robbins, on Dec. 7, 1952, and he survives at Otterbein Senior Living Center, St. Marys.
Also surviving are her children, her "birthday present," Kathleen Robbins Wilburn, her caregiver and with whom she most recently resided; her "favorite son," Michael (Traci) Robbins, Celina; and "her baby," Peggy Bunnell, Reynoldsburg. She often said that memories of times spent with her grandchildren, Naomi Bunnell Haseman, Allan (Jessica) Bunnell, Joshua (Morgan) Bunnell and Bryan and Dillon Robbins, kept her smiling throughout the years. These grandchildren have so far blessed her with three great-grandchildren, Noah Haseman, Riley Bunnell and Ryan Bunnell.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Peter Bunnell, and a grandson, Adam Robbins.
She graduated with the class of 1949 from Celina High School. She then earned her registered nurse designation from Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. She was first employed as a nurse at the former Otis Hospital in Celina for 10 years. While her children were preschool age, she became involved with the public health deppartment of Mercer County. Later she found her true calling as a visiting nurse throughout Mercer County as an employee of the Home Health Care program at Coldwater Hospital. She retired in 1990.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Ohio Order of Eastern Star Chapter 91 in Celina. Prior to moving to California, she volunteered at Coldwater Hospital and Otterbein. She was a lifetime member of "the girls' club," a group of girlfriends from high school who still meet monthly.
The charitable spirit that filled her soul and made her such a wonderful nurse, wife, mother, grandmother and friend can be celebrated, if one wishes, with a charitable contribution to the Otterbein St. Marys Benevolent Fund, St. Paul's UMC, or any cause or charity that is dear to his or her heart.
A memorial service for friends and family, the date not yet established, will be announced by Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina.
Online condolences may be left at LHDfuneralhome.com.
