Charles Frey
Charles H. Frey, 85, formerly of St. Marys, died at 7:09 p.m. April 11, 2014, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home, Wapakoneta.
He was born July 17, 1928, in St. Marys, to Lewis Edward and Clara Mae (Moore) Frey. On Oct. 22, 1949, he married Irene A. Braun at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, and she died Dec. 7, 2013.
Surviving are five daughters, Connie (Steve) Bargdill, Botkins, Linda Kremer, Roanoke, Va., Debbie (Wes) Shadley, Bullhead City, Ariz., Vickie (Mike) Neuman, New Knoxville, and Charlotte (Tim) Findley, Anna; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Woodrow, Leroy, John and Samuel Frey, and sisters, Beatrice Keiber and Mary Anderson.
He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 38 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines and United States Army. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289 and Eagles Lodge Aerie 767, all of St. Marys. He loved his family and everything associated with the game of baseball. He had vast knowledge of statistics and the history of teams and players. He especially enjoyed attending opening day festivities in Cincinnati every year of his adult life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Military honors will be presented following the services. Private family burial will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
