Shirley Hawkey
Shirley Marie Hawkey, 69, Oshkosh, Wis., passed away at 10 p.m. Jan. 18, 2013, as the result of a lung disease.
She was born March 11, 1943, in Lee County, Va., to Arthur Marion Seals and Opal Littrell Seals-Evans.
Survivors include her children, Deborah A. "CB" Hoskins and Sally Josephson of Oshkosh, Kevin A. (Teresa) Hoskins of Farmers, Texas, Timothy C. Hoskins of London, Ky., Vincent D. Hoskins of Franklin, and Travis L. Hoskins; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; brothers, Jack (Sandy) Seals of Celina, Ronnie (Connie) Seals of Celina, Larry and Peggy Seals of Sattillo, Texas, John (Rebecca) Seals of Wapakoneta; and her sister, Pam (Carl) Pugh of Celina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Delford Evans; and two brothers, Gary Seals and Dennis Seals.
Doctors don't know how she got the lung disease and had no cure for it. Her daughter and her youngest son were at her bedside right up to the end. Her dear friend Paula had just left her bedside.
She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary #70 in Oshkosh. She was a member under her veteran daughter's name, who at the time of her death was the commander of the Post. She loved to sew for friends and family. She had her sewing machine in her room at Eden Meadows Rehab Center, and now her sister will enjoy it. She enjoyed her family and friends and taking trips to visit them. She was recently among all of her children and her first husband, A.C. Hoskins, in Kentucky on Oct. 26, 2012, for a family gathering. She greatly enjoyed this trip with her daughter. She loved playing cards, board games, reading books and working crossword puzzles. She also loved country and bluegrass music.
She donated her body to science. She wanted to help find a cure for the lung disease and anything that could help someone else. She will be missed by her family and friends all over the United States.
