John Brown
John S. Brown, 87, New Weston, died March 1, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 19, 1925, in New Weston, to Lincoln and Lucy Sargent Brown. On Feb. 7, 1948, he married Florence Malin, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Ralph (Terrie) Brown, Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Melissa Yates, Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Deceased are a sister, Betty Ary, and a son-in-law, Bill Wenz.
He was a 1943 graduate of the former Jackson High School, Union City, and attended The Ohio State University. He was retired from Fram Corporation, Greenville, where he worked as an electrical engineer.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Franklin CV-13, the most decorated ship of World War II.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, and its Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 345, Fort Recovery, and Fram Retirees, Greenville.
He attended yearly reunions of the USS Franklin CV-13 and was an avid fisherman.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, with military honors conducted by the Fort Recovery American Legion.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday and 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.
Memorials may be given to State of the Heart Hospice.
