Rev. George Albers
Rev. George Albers C.PP.S., 97, died at 5:30 a.m. Nov. 15, 2012, in the infirmary at St. Charles Center, Carthagena.
He was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Cincinnati, to Lawrence and Gertrude Ungehauer Albers.
Surviving are two nephews, Clem Pater III and Gerry Pater, both of Hamilton; a niece, Carolyn Johnson, Lodi, Calif.; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Rosemary (Clem Jr.) Pater and Loretta Albers, and a brother, Lawrence (Janet) Albers.
The priesthood was a second career as he initially worked as an architect with Ed Schulte and Associates of Cincinnati, designing churches and cathedrals across the country. He entered religious formation in 1954 and was ordained a Precious Blood priest June 9, 1962, in Carthagena. He marked his 50th anniversary as a priest in June.
He served at various parishes including Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, was an instructor at Julienne High School in Dayton and St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., served as a hospital chaplain in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Canton, and helped at his brother's clock repair shop following retirement in 1982. He moved to St. Charles Center in 2000.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Center, the Rev. Larry Hemmelgarn officiating and the Rev. John Hoying giving the homily. Burial will follow at the community cemetery.
Calling is 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at St. Charles with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m.
