Charles Benner
Charles Henry Benner, 99, died Sept. 13, 2011, in Cincinnati following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Fort Recovery. He married Mary K. Kautz, who survives.
Also surviving are children, Susan Benner Gehrke, Dan Benner and Jonathan Benner, and five grandchildren.
He was professor emeritus at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University. He was the author of many publications and articles in association journals and papers included in national symposium reports. He contributed to the National Instructional Materials Access Center manual and assisted in writing Ohio elementary and secondary music guides.
He held a bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University, a master's from the University of Cincinnati and a doctorate from Ohio State University.
He also had taught high school mathematics and English and had served as a high school principal.
Private burial ceremonies with military honors will be followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 8 at St. Paul United Methodist Community Church in Cincinnati.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the music ministry at the church.
