Theckla Recker
Theckla M. Recker, 97, formerly of 8687 state Route 705, Yorkshire, and a resident at The Gardens at St. Henry for three years, died at 3:03 p.m. Aug. 3, 2009, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
She was born May 8, 1912, in Osgood to Fred J. and Frances Bornhorst Poeppelman. On Sept. 14, 1932, she married Ervin G. Recker, who died March 5, 1995.
Surviving are two children, Dennis (Joan) Recker, White House; and Sheila (Paul) Goddard, Yorkshire; a sister, Mildred Winner, New Weston; a sister-in-law, Alice Poeppelman, Minster; two grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grancchildren.
Deceased are three sisters, Elizabeth Lachey Grogean, Bernadine Bruey and Dorothy Borchers; and two brothers, Linus and Urban Poeppelman.
She was a homemaker and a baker and worked as a bookkeeper for E.G. Recker Feed Service. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood and its St. Barbara Ladies Sodality, the Red Hat Society, the Grange, a founding member of the Osgood Card Club and the Jolly 4-Hers. She taught piano lessons and was the church organist for many years.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Contributions can be made to the Gardens at St. Henry activity fund.
