George Schieltz
George A. Schieltz, 85, Versailles, died at 3:31 p.m. May 29, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Darke County, to Louis and Ursula Barga Schieltz. On July 29, 1950, he married Ruth C. Wagner, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Mark (Roseann) Schieltz, Greenville, Kevin Schieltz, Greenville, and Brice (Dyann) Schieltz, Bloomington, Ill.; a daughter, Regina Schieltz, Greenville; and three grandchildren,
Deceased are brothers, Vitalis Henry, Herman, Raymond, Leo, Robert and Thomas Schieltz; and sisters, Cora Boyer and Sister Esther Schieltz.
He was a machinist at Monarch Machine Tool Company in Sidney for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a motor machinist's mate 3rd class from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed in New Caledonia in the South Pacific. He later became a plank man on the U.S.S. Fall River. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. Denis Catholic Church both in Versailles.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, the Rev. David Vincent officiating. Burial is at St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.
