Betty Opperman
Betty J. Opperman, 77, 310 E. Front St., New Bremen, died at 12:27 p.m. May 10, 2009, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
She was born on Sept. 24, 1931, in New Bremen, to Clarence and Aurelia Donnerberg Quellhorst. On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Frederick C. Opperman, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Larry (Frances) Opperman, Dunn, N.C., and Bill (Cathleen) Opperman, Pickerington; two brothers, Mervin (Jeannette) Quellhorst, New Bremen, and the Rev. Ralph (Sue) Quellhorst, Columbus; in-laws, the Rev. Robert (Jeanne) Opperman, Fostoria, Myron (Waveling) Opperman, New Knoxville, Marvin Opperman, St. Marys, Marjorie Meier, Prescott, Wis., Julia Opperman, Bluffton, and four grandchildren.
She retired from Crown Equipment Corp. on Dec. 3, 1993, and was a member of the company's 25 -year club. She also was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, where she was active in the Busy 12, the Satellite C and helped with the funeral lunch committee. She also was a member of the Traveling Wheels Camping Club and the Moon Walker SAMS 68 Camping Club. She was a 1951 graduate of New Bremen High School.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. William Younkin officiating. Burial is at the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund.
