Harold Daniels
Harold "Sandy" R. Daniels, 96, of Kossuth, died at 2 a.m. Nov. 4, 2008, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville.
He was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Logan Township, Auglaize County, to Howard R. and Sylvia M. Wycuff Daniels. On Nov. 30, 1935, he married Margret K. Packer, who is deceased.
Surviving are six children, Donald H. (Marjorie) Kachelries and Terry L (Carla), all of Wapakoneta, Edward E. (Kay), Lima, Goldie M. (Gerald) Wisher and Freedus F. (Betty), all of Spencerville, and Patricia A. Makar, Kossuth; a brother, Vernon (Joan), Kossuth; three sisters, Hazel Young, Lima, Helen Kirkhoff, Spencerville, and Betty (Ronald) Gaskill, St. Marys; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Virgil, Alfred, Jesse and Lester.
He worked at the former Nickel Plate Railway as a foreman and was a supervisor of the car yard. He retired from Norfolk and Western Railway Company in 1974. He owned the Marathon station in Spencerville in 1958 and worked part-time as a salesman for the former Hager Ford business in Spencerville. He was a member of Bowersock Brothers Veterans of Foreign Wars, Spencerville, and served in the National Guard prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Newfoundland. He served as a mentor and head coach for junior bowlers, was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1994 and was a director on the Lima Bowling Association board. He had attended Buckland High School.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Steve Waterman officiating. Burial is at Kossuth Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be conducted by the Spencerville Veterans.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
