James Steinke
Former Coldwater and Mercer County resident, James Anthony Steinke, 76, of Tipp City, died at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Hospice of Dayton.
He was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Philothea, to Isadore and Bertha Tumbusch Steinke. On Oct. 30, 1954, he married Mildred Schenking, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Steven, Huber Heights, Chris (Della), Tipp City, and Jeff (Rhonda), Centerville; two daughters, Kathy Julian and Paula Barlage, both of Tipp City; three brothers, Charles (Armella), Paul (Margie) and Jessie (Shirley); two sisters, Esther (Tim) Mattingly and Alma (Len) Clune; and ten grandchildren.
Deceased are three sisters.
He had worked at the former Avco New Idea, Coldwater, and part-time at True Value Hardware, Troy. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Knights of Columbus, all in Tipp City. He served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and was discharged as a Sgt. First Class U.S. Military.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tipp City, the Rev. R. Marc Sherlock, officiating.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to service on Thursday at the church. Burial is at the church cemetery.
