Barbara Guard
Barbara B. Guard, 91, a former resident of Portland, Ind., died April 7, 2008, at Persimmon Ridge of Portland.
She was born Aug. 24, 1916, in Bluffton, Ind., to Charles E. and Mabel Foster Briggs. On July 25, 1936, she married Dale Wilson, who died Feb. 2, 1952. On Dec. 26, 1955, she married Norman M. Guard, who died June 6, 1985.
Survivors are a son, Charles M. Wilson, Vanceburg, Ky.; a daughter, Marna McAbee (Russell "Pete"), Fort Recovery; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Phillip David Wilson.
She owned and operated Decatur Floral Co. for five years and owned and operated Flowers by Guard in Fort Recovery for several years. She was an employee of the former Weiler's Department Store and Marsh Supermarket in Portland for several years. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Portland, the Business Professional Women of Fort Recovery and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Decatur.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home, Portland, the Revs. Greg Rittenhouse and Darrell Borders officiating. Burial is at the International Order of Odd Fellows Twin Hills Cemetery in Pennville.
Calling is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
