Jane Westgerdes
Jane Elizabeth (Schmitz) Westgerdes passed away on June 6, 2026, at 6:11 p.m. at her residence in Celina.
She was born on May 10, 1957, to the late Arthur and Veronica (Garman) Schmitz.
Jane is survived by her siblings, Samuel Schmitz of Celina, Anthony (Rita) Schmitz of Celina, and Carolyn (Brad) Dickmann of Burlington, Wisconsin.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon (Tim) Shaw of Lancaster, as well as the nieces and nephews she dearly loved: Joe Schmitz, David Shaw, Ben Schmitz, Julie Siefring, Jackie Tingley, Chelsea Graziano, and Lindsey Smiley.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Peter Schmitz.
A 1975 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, Jane continued her education at Sinclair College. She dedicated 25 years of employment to Crown Equipment before beginning a career as a home caregiver and coordinator of home helpers. Caring for others came naturally to Jane, and she found great fulfillment in helping people maintain their independence and quality of life.
Jane embraced life with a kind heart and a spirit of adventure. An avid reader, she could often be found enjoying a good paperback book. She loved camping and traveling, creating cherished memories on journeys throughout the United States and abroad. Jane treasured photographs and family keepsakes, carefully preserving memories and staying connected with those she loved. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, placing the needs of others before her own and earning the admiration of many through her compassion and generosity.
Jane also enjoyed cooking, spending time with her beloved cats, and keeping up with the lives and accomplishments of her family members. Her caring nature, thoughtful presence, and genuine interest in others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cisco Funeral Homes in Celina.
A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Joseph Pasala officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery - Sharpsburg in Fort Recovery.
The caring staff of Cisco Funeral Homes of Celina and St. Marys is honored to serve Jane's family during this difficult time.
