Kicking off the Celina City Schools' annual Summer Feeding Program, Tuesday's food distribution was a success, as evidenced by the long line of cars at the elementary school parking lot. Officials reported serving 1,002 children and distributing 14,028 meals Tuesday. This is the first year the program has used drive-thru pick-up. Each Tuesday in June and July, every child, regardless of income, is eligible to receive a week's worth of free breakfast and lunch meals, including fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, bread, deli meat and other items. Tuesday's selection included egg omelets, milk, pancakes, juice, chicken patty sandwiches, hamburgers, a special treat of Rice Krispies and fresh produce, including oranges, strawberries and more, said food services director Marissa Coil. Sandy Jeffries, elementary cafeteria manager, said team members prepared 1,000 bags and 1,200 families registered.
