She was on the core team of the Catholic Faith Rally and the Monday night Living Waters Prayer Group. For many years she worked at the voting polls, serving as the president in St. Henry Granville Township.
Alvira loved to sew, so much that she purchased a Gammill long arm quilting machine which made it easy for her to make many quilts each year. Over the years she had made hundreds of full and queen size quilts, as well as many baby quilts. The quilts had many different patterns and even appliques. Later she turned to making "Blankets for the Poor" which the Living Waters Prayer Group distributed at Thanksgiving.
She also loved caring for her flower beds, especially the 80 plus rose bushes she cared for, since the rose is known as the Blessed Virgin Mary's favorite Flower.
