Celina's Wes Greber, center, is greeted by teammates after completing a no hitter against Marion Local Monday night.
CELINA - Ice baths are normally reserved for bad pranks and rehab. But for Celina's Wes Greber, he was more than happy to take a postgame plunge as the lefty threw a no-hitter Monday night against Marion Local in the Bulldogs' 4-0 non-conference baseball win at Montgomery Field.
"I was out there throwing strikes, and that's what happens when you throw strikes," Greber said postgame. "I had my team backing me up and making plays that were pretty hard, and my first basemen (Chance Miller) was picking the balls that were bad throws."
The senior pitcher finished with 11 strikeouts on 104 pitches and sat down 17 consecutive Flyers at one point. Marion (8-10) could only muster three walks against Greber, the Flyer's only baserunners of the game. It was Celina's first no-hitter since Chance Miller's six inning no-no on May 19, 2025 against Houston, and the first full-game effort since Brady Steinbrunner's on March 30, 2024 against New Bremen.
"Wes has stepped up as a senior," said Celina coach John Dorner, whose team improved to 8-9 overall with the win. "This was his second start, and he's pitched well every time out. Tonight he dominated, he was able to get ahead in the count. (Marion Local) battled and hit a lot of foul balls today, but he was still able to put the ball in the strike zone."
Greber worked around two walks in the first inning and his team's bats took control soon after. Brodee Schulte-Arnold singled to lead off the home half, and the junior eventually worked his way to third after a steal and grounder.
It paved the way for Ohyn May to open the scoring on his sharp grounder to shortstop Ethan Osterholt. Simon Schwartz kept the inning going on a two-out walk, and he later came around to score on a single from Miller that made it a 2-0 lead for Celina.

Greber picked up two more strikeouts in the second, and the Bulldogs added two more runs in the home half. Luke Maxwell and Schulte-Arnold reached base to give Jett Warner the chance to add some early insurance. The freshman came up big and roped the ball down the first-base line that cleared the bases and made it a 4-0 game just two innings in.
The middle stages of the game saw Greber really settle in and command the strike zone. After picking up another strikeout in the third, the senior struck out the side in the fourth to make it an even eight K's.
Another 1-2-3 inning in the fifth saw Greber mow Derek Knapke down swinging, while a nice pick from Miller at first on a grounder gave his pitcher some help in the sixth.
Marion pitcher Luke Everman, who came in for starter Trey Brookhart in the third, did his job and kept the Bulldogs' bats quiet, but it did not mean much with a zero in the Flyer's hit column.

Greber's final work in the seventh had tension throughout the ballpark. Brookhart flew out on one pitch, but Ethan Osterholt worked a full-count walk to give Marion its first baserunner since the first inning.
Seth Heitkamp could only watch strike three go past him the following at-bat, and Everman's fly ball to center field got the party started in the home dugout.
"(After the first inning) I took some deep breaths and had my catcher (Jett Warner) come out a couple of times to cheer me up, walk me through it and say 'Wes you got this, it's just me and you'," said Greber.
Warner led the offense with two RBI, while Schulte-Arnold's two hits highlighted the lineup that finished with five knock on the day. Celina will try for its fifth win in a row tonight at Bath at 5:30 p.m., which is tied for first in the Western Buckeye League.
Marion Local will look to turn around their four-game slump tonight against Minster, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
