According to the Manchester barn's 1980 nomination form for the National Register of Historic Places, it was one of several in the Black Swamp area: "This thematic grouping of round barns in the Black Swamp of northwest Ohio is historically and architecturally significant because they are the only known round barns of this size and stature in this part of Ohio. The six barns include two in Allen County, one each in Auglaize, Paulding, Putnam and Van Wert counties."
