Jim Lee shared his antique maple tap collection, with taps dating back to the 1800s at Mackenbach Preserve near St. Marys Saturday. Over 70 visitors joined the Heritage Trails Park District for a program devoted to maple tapping, where commissioner Dave Stilwell explained the process of turning sap into maple syrup. Participants learned about tree identification, methods and tools used for sap collection, and the history of maple syrup production in Ohio. All were invited to taste-test the sap as it dripped from the tree.
