St. Henry's Morgan Baumer, seated center, will attend the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne and will both play volleyball and compete on the Cougars' track and field team.
ST. HENRY - The University of Saint Francis presented a great opportunity for St. Henry's Morgan Baumer to not only study nursing, but also play volleyball and run track for the Cougars.
"Originally I just looked at St. Francis for the nursing program, but whenever I talked to the coaches, that changed my mind," Baumer said. "They have an amazing medical program and that's going to be super beneficial for me."
As a volleyball player for the Redskins, Baumer was first team All-Midwest Athletic Conference twice, and made the All-MAC second team her sophomore year. She was a big part of St. Henry's run to the state title match and led the team with 17 digs in the final, a loss to Newark Catholic.
"Volleyball wise, when I went there, the coaching staff and the team just felt a lot like St. Henry volleyball. That was a big decider for me," Baumer said.
The Cougars finished 4-26 last season, and will look to take a step up in head coach Scott Haddix's 13th year in the fall of 2026. They compete in the NAIA's Crossroads League, where they had an 0-18 record last season.
Baumer will also compete on the track team after a successful career for St. Henry. She was a 2024 All-MAC runner in the 4 x 200 relay team with Karlee Buschur, Sam Lauber and Raleigh Baumer.
In the 2025 season, Morgan Baumer was on the 4x100 team that finished sixth, and the 4x200 team that also finished in sixth. She also competed on St. Henry's 4x400 relay team and the long jump.
St. Francis' indoor track team just wrapped up a fifth place finish at the Oiler Opener in Findlay, and begins the heart of its season on Jan. 16. The Cougars' outdoor track team finished eighth a year ago in the Crossroads League Championships.
"They have a good coaching staff," Baumer said. "They are so easy to talk to and that's what sold me. It's going to be a lot easier to run for someone when you are able to talk to them."
