Jerry Waggoner
Jerry Lee Waggoner, age 86, of Wabash-York Road, Rossburg, passed away peacefully of natural causes Thursday evening, December 18, 2025, at Rest Haven in Greenville, Ohio. He was born August 11, 1939, in North Star, Ohio, to the late Samuel "Glenn" & Loretta (Subler) Waggoner. On February 9, 1963, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, Jerry married Karen (Stammen) Waggoner who survives.
Also surviving are five of six children: Elizabeth Esarey of Centerville, Nicholas Paul Waggoner (dec. at infancy), Stacy & Fred Poeppelman of Versailles, Jessica & Ernie England of Rockford, Erin & Darrell Jones of Ansonia and Andrea & Gabe Franck of St. Henry; 15 of 16 grandchildren: Thomas and Patrick Esarey, Natalie & David Deputy, Samantha & Mahmoud Boutaam, Charles & Amber Poeppelman, Coleton & Maria Poeppelman, Sydney Poeppelman (dec.), Amanda & Bill Perry, Ryan & Amanda England, Stephan Hinkle, Geoffrey & Patricia England, Amanda & Kaleb Earick, Megan & Dyllan Saintignon, Garrett, Lauren and Jack Franck along with 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Charlotte Griffith of New Iberia, LA, Mary Thomas of Centerville and Jean & Lavern Stammen of Coldwater; sisters & brothers-in-law: Barbara & Paul Huber of North Star, Hildred Barga of Greenville, Carol & Jim Cox of Huber Heights and Timothy & Peggy Stammen of Philadelphia, PA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John & Betty Waggoner and brothers & sisters-in-law: Floyd Griffith, Mary & Robert McEowen, Gerhard Stammen and Jerry Barga.
Mr. Waggoner was a 1957 graduate of Ansonia High School and served in the US Army preceding the Vietnam War. Jerry was retired from Coldwater Hospital where he worked with kitchen maintenance. He had previously been a shop foreman at Century / Transamerica in Gettysburg for many years. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Holy Name Society, North Star American Legion and the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jerry enjoyed cleaning, tinkering with wood and had a knack for approaching animals. He also appreciated nature and loved to be outside where he could be gardening, grooming the lawn and keeping an eye out for interesting rocks and arrowheads.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Louis Church in North Star with Rev. Andrew Reckers presiding. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Friday, 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie and Saturday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the church gathering room.
Memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers or charities of choice. Private condolences can be expressed at the gehretfuneralhome.com website.
