Jean Barhorst
Jean Marie (Puthoff) Barhorst, age 80, of Cardo Road, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at her residence, Saturday evening, November 8, 2025. She was born, February 22, 1945, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Robert & Ruth (Axe) Puthoff. On July 9, 1966, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater, Jean married Lester J. Barhorst who survives.
Also surviving are four children: Kevin & Deb Barhorst of Russia, Kellie & Ted Gehret of Minster, Kirk Barhorst of Minster and Kimberly & Tony Funderberg of Piqua; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one sister, Roberta & Paul Abels of St. Henry; sisters & brothers-in-law: Alice Barhorst of Dayton, Jeanette & Bernard Koverman of Newport and Henry & Patricia Barhorst of Minster as well as numerous nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight & Margaret Puthoff and several sisters & brothers-in-law: Thelma & Ed Luebke, Jim & Lucile Barhorst, Harry Barhorst, Don Barhorst, Eileen & Francis Shappie, Betty & Ernest Grilliot, Dennis Barhorst, Barbara Barhorst and Mary Ann & Charles Davis.
Jean was a 1963 graduate of Coldwater High School. In 2006, she retired from Walmart in Sidney and years ago, worked at Brucken's Pub in Fort Loramie. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and a past member of the Fort Loramie American Legion Auxiliary. Jeannie was dedicated to her family. In her leisure, she enjoyed bingo, playing cards, building puzzles, and especially, crocheting baby clothes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Newport with Rev. John Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Thursday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or charities of choice. Private condolences may be expressed at the gehretfuneralhome.com website.
