Michael Powell
With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Michael "Spock" Steven Powell, who left this world peacefully on October 14th at the age of 70, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 1, 1955, in Coldwater, Ohio, Michael lived a vibrant and fulfilling life shaped by his passions, his kindness, and his enduring love for those around him. Known affectionately as "Spock," he was a man who never met a stranger and whose love for racing, model car building, classic cars, and dogs was only rivaled by his love for his family and friends. Whether at a racetrack, a Coldwater High School football game, or a backyard gathering, Michael brought joy, laughter, and a warm presence that made everyone feel welcome.
Michael's life was defined by deep loyalty and unwavering love. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His quick wit, generous spirit, and infectious sense of humor made a lasting impact on everyone he met. His legacy is one of compassion, community, and connection - qualities that will live on through all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy Loretta (Luma) Powell; his daughter, Angel (Matthew) Buchheit, Gilmer, Texas; and his cherished grandchildren: Chevy (Clorissa) Cartwright, Josh (BJ) Toler, Rex Buchheit, Elizabeth Pfeiffer, Cheyenne Pfeiffer, and Shauna Weitz. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Dennis (Jenny) Powell, Columbus; Larry (Clancy) Powell, Celina; Lisa (Kevin) Kremer-Kennedy, Coldwater; Lora (Roger) Welman, Coldwater; and Sandi (Dan) Feltz, Coldwater; a brother-in-law, Bill Puthoff, Chickasaw; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Powell, Celina.
Michael is now reunited in peace with his parents, Glenn and Marie (Froning) Powell; his son, William Joseph Cartwright; his brothers, John Powell, Gene Powell, and Brian Powell (who passed on the same day as Michael); his sister, Dorothy Puthoff; and his brother-in-law, Jeff "Turk" Kremer.
