2 injured in early morning Celina 1-car crash

A 21-year-old St. Marys man sustained life-threatening injuries early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle injury crash between Staeger and Havemann roads on State Route 29, according to a news release from Celina Police Chief Tom Wale.
At about 12:28 a.m. Wednesday, Celina Police responded to an injury traffic crash reported via a phone app, the news release states. Officers found the crash on State Route 29 coming into Celina from the east on the curve between Staeger and Havemann roads.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that the crash involved only one vehicle," the release states. "The driver was identified as a 21-year-old California man, Maxwell Myers. There was one passenger, a 21-year-old St. Marys man, Sean Kirschmann. Both men received serious injuries. Kirschmann's injuries are believed to be life threatening."
Officers further determined that the vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Camry, was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver failed to negotiate the curve and drove off the north side of the road, striking a culvert. The Camry went airborne then landed near vertical on the rear bumper.
"It then cartwheeled end over end for about 50 yards before coming to rest on the roof," the release states.
Both men were taken to a local hospital and then flown to trauma units at other hospitals. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor, according to the release.
Celina Police were assisted by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, the Celina Fire Department and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.
