Carl Barhorst
Carl "Whitey" John Barhorst, age 92, of Eastview Drive, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday morning, March 24, 2025, at Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen, Ohio.
He was born October 14, 1932, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Albert & Anna (Barlage) Barhorst. On August 29, 1959, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Sharpsburg, Carl married Eileen (Schoen) Barhorst who survives.
Also surviving are six children: Chris & Jennifer Barhorst of Greenville, Steve & Linda Barhorst of Newport, Dale & Joyce Barhorst of Minster, Connie & Keith Brown of Versailles, Scott & Melissa Barhorst of Sidney and Rick & Teresa Barhorst of Fort Loramie; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Kay Thornton of Coldwater, Bill & Jane Boeckman of Coldwater, Janice Hemmelgarn of Centerville, Harold & Theresa Schoen of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia & Neil Diller of Fort Recovery, James & Mary Ann Schoen of Dayton, Doris & Doug Runyon of Sequoia, WA, Linda & Adrian Noll of Celina, Rick & Doris Schoen of Palo Alto, CA, Marilyn & Eric Greenrose of Dayton and Dan & Peg Schoen of Greenville along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant children, Joseph & Mary Barhorst; six siblings: Alma & Orville Mangen, Albert & Martha Barhorst, Harold Barhorst, Norma & Leroy Koverman, Joan & Vernon Vondenhuevel and Ernest & Joann Barhorst; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harvey Thornton Jr., Virginia Boeckman, Harold Hemmelgarn and David & Trish Schoen.
Mr. Barhorst was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Stolle Corp. in Sidney where he had been employed 44 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a 50-year member of the Fort Loramie American Legion Post 355 and a retired member of the Fort Loramie Volunteer Fire Department. Whitey was known by his family and friends for his spirited personality. He loved his family and was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Since retiring, he enjoyed building many woodworking projects.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. John Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Friday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Fire Department or Ohio's Hospice of Miami County.
